Deadly Desire (Riley Jensen, Guardian, Book 7) by Keri Arthur

She hates to kill, but she loves the adrenaline rush. Sometimes being a guardian is like walking a fine line. You never know which side your going to land on.

Guardian Riley Jensen always faces the worst villains and this time is no different. Someone is killing young teenagers, and someone is killing ancient vampires. Are the two cases connected? Riley thinks so and does a thorough investigation to uncover the source. Someone is using magic that Riley has no knowledge of, and someone is getting a little too close for comfort. With the full moon nearing soon, and her hormones in over-drive, Riley is frustrated when rogue wolf Kye Murphy keeps showing up at the scenes of the crimes. She may desire him, but she is committed to her lover vampire, Quinn.

Kye Murphy is a bounty hunter for hire. He recently was the bodyguard for Riley's old packleader. Now he has been hired by a friend of his to track down his daughter's killer. His investigation takes him on the same path as Riley. Even though he desire's the lovely wolf, he would just assume kill her than to bed her. He has one goal in his mind, and that is to find and kill whatever is stealing young lives.

Riley's investigation leads her to a mens establishment. It is ran by two older sisters, and their smell seems familiar to the same one Riley smelt in all of the crime scenes. Under the Directorates orders, Riley goes undercover as a stripper in the establishment. Kye keeps frequenting the premise when Riley is working as well to scope out the place. But when the two of them get to deep, they are soon fighting for their lives.

Another fantastic installment for Riley Jensen! A seductive and intense treat. Keri's world is built very intricately, and her characters just pop from the pages. With a thrilling ending that will have you begging for more, Deadly Desire is a sure-fire hit!

To Taste Temptation (Legend of the Four Soldiers, Bk 1) by Elizabeth Hoyt

Historical Romance writer Elizabeth Hoyt brings us the first in a new series, The Legend of the Four Soldiers. Filled with glimpses of a captivating fairytale, and the emotional rollercoaster of a budding romance, this one is sure to not disappoint.

As legend depicts, one day as four soldiers were walking their way home from war, they came upon a T in the road. They pondered which path to follow, but each thought their fate lay in different paths. One soldier strayed from the path and ran into the forest. His name is Iron Heart and this is his story.

Lady Emeline Gordon is a widow who chaperones young girls in the ton, teaching them proper etiquette and propriety in London for pin money. Her young son Daniel, and her aging aunt live with her. Her life seems to be going along splendidly well, until one day the new neighbors move in.

Samuel Hartley is a handsome, wealthy American and a former soldier. His uncivilized ways unnerve Emeline. She just knows he does things to irritate her, like wear his moccassins to a very high society ball. He has moved back to London after a long absence because he believes his regiment was betrayed. He is determined to find the culprit and see justice served.

Bringing his younger sister to live with him serves as an easy excuse to get closer to the intriguing, beautiful Lady Emeline. Proposing to hire her to chaperone his young sister, he is soon enlisting her help with his investigation. Lady Emeline's brother had served with Samuel and had died. She believes that by helping him, it brings her closer to her brother.

As the investigation brings them closer to the identity of the betrayer, the sparks heat up between Emeline and Samuel. Will she be able to hurdle over the obstacle of his barbaric ways to let him come closer? Or will society harden her heart against him? Can Samuel overcome his guilt of letting his regiment down so he can be truly free to love?

The background of the era is well-painted. The characters are well-developed and emotions run high. The plot is well-twisted, and the pages flow with magic. Although I didn't really come to love the heroine, the secondary characters were vibrant and full of life. I will definately be picking up the next in this new series. Who can resist a man in uniform?

Booking Through Thursday

Booking Through Thursday is brought to us by http://btt2.wordpress.com/ .

This week's question asks:

Last Saturday (May 2nd) is Free Comic Book Day! In celebration of comics and graphic novels, some suggestions:

- Do you read graphic novels/comics? Why do/don’t you enjoy them?
- How would you describe the difference between “graphic novel” and “comic”? Is there a difference at all?
- Say you have a friend who’s never encountered graphic novels. Recommend some titles you consider landmark/”canonical”.

When I was younger, I used to read Wonder Woman comic books because well, she was wonderful ! I wanted an invisible plane too. But as I grew older, I veered away from the comics, no reason really, except , well I got older and they lost interest. But recently, some of my favorite authors have come out with "graphic novels". I thought I'd try it, and really, they aren't that bad. Lots of pictures in them, and the pictures really tell the story more than the written word. I guess they really are alot of like, except comics are more of a magazine, and Graphic novels are printed bound matter. The graphics are better too IMO.

Kiss & Hell by Dakota Cassidy

A girl has to pay the rent and buy the kibble. Eight hundred dollars per each seance is pretty good money for a medium. But when a handsome demon starts interrupting with babble, Delaney sees her rent money fly right out the window.

Delaney Markham is a medium. She sees and hears dead people and tries to send them to the light. Seeing ghosts though can really play havoc with your love life. The last boyfriend she had saw her talking to a shower curtain, a dead sailor, and he thought she was crazy and ended their relationship. Since then, she hasn't had a boyfriend since. She has her babies, her six dogs, that she cares for and that keep her company. They keep her busy as they all have their quirks. One has a Bedazzled diaper, one has diabetes, and the others all have their own ailments. Delaney loves them all, but it isn't the same as having the white picket fence, the babies, and that one true love.

Clyde Atwell is a demon first class from hell. He was clerking in the library at hell when he came upon a folder with Delaney's name on it. Upon perusal, he found out that she was supposed to be contracted for her soul soon by another demon named Clyve Atwell. Using the coincidence to his benefit, he changed one letter of the demon to suit his own name, and poof! Clyde finds himself soon talking to Delaney. But Clyde has his own mission in mind when he materializes into the mortal world, and it doesn't include taking Delaney's soul.

Clyde wants to find out what happened to him. He was mixing chemicals in his lab when there was an explosion. The next thing he knew, he woke up in hell. Delaney wants to find out why Satan wants her soul and deflect his mission. Even though she fears Clyde won't be able to handle her ghost-handling quirk, she still finds the chemistry between them too hot to not be explored. Clyde and Delaney are soon steaming up the sheets, dodging demons, celebrity ghosts, and unraveling the mystery surrounding Clyde's death. Delaney knows that Clyde will eventually have to go to the light and she accepts that. But she is soon not only fighting for her life, but her heart as well.

Another laugh-out loud winner from Dakota Cassidy! Her characters are quirky and full of attitude. Hell will never be the same with mediums like Delaney urging souls to the light before Satan can get them. Absolutely sexy, charming, and wonderfully unique!

The Silent Note by Patrick Davis

Maria owns an antique store and one of her favorite pieces is an old piano. But when Maria dies suddenly, her husband stores it, along with her other antiques, in their garage.

When Maria’s young daughter, Melissa, decides after a year or so after her mother’s death she liked to learn how to play the piano, John brings in Maria’s antique piano from the garage for Melissa to play on. But one of the keys is stuck, so John calls a Piano tuner to fix it. The problem is a small wooden box that is blocking the string.

When John opens the box, he discovers an old black and white photograph, and several letters. He reads them and discovers that the piano used to belong to a young woman named Elsa Thompson. The letters are between Elsa, an aspiring pianist, and Grant Ford, an engineering student. The letters cover a two year period and start with a friendship that blossoms into a romance, but unfortunately, the letters end before the couple marry.

John wonders what happened to Elsa and Grant, and begins his own search of the past. It’s a mystery, an obsession, that he feels he has to solve in honor of his late wife and himself.

THE SILENT NOTE is a charming, mysterious and romantic tale. Davis does a remarkable job with period detail and character development. The plot is sound, crescending into a wonderful climatic ending. I really enjoyed it!
