Human Blend by Lori Pescatore

Escaping from them had been difficult enough, now Laney needs to keep hidden. All she wanted was to be on her own. Laney is not like other girls... she has very special abilities that set her apart from others. How or why she came about these abilities is a mystery she has yet to unfold. Haunted by memories and flashbacks of the suffering she endured at the hands of her captors, she changes her appearance and hides out in a small town. Ignoring her own warnings, she begins a relationship with a local boy. The relationship turns dangerous when the boy begins developing similar abilities. This development does not fall under the radar of the men who are trying to recapture her. A young doctor's interest is piqued when he witnesses her mysteriously curing a young child's illness. He befriends her due to his growing fascination with uncovering the true nature of her abilities, but not without harboring secrets of his own. Laney's new life falls apart when she meets a young intern that seems to have all the answers to her questions. The information sends her into a tail spin. Thoughts of going on the run once again are thwarted as those whom she was running from find her.

MY THOUGHTS

Laney aka Julie was kidnapped when she was younger but she has suppressed those memories. Now, she just wants to fit in like everyone else, so in a small town, she takes a job as a hospice volunteer.  There, she meets a surgeon called Eli, who is fascinated with Julie's abilities when he sees her with a suffering child.  She also meets a local college student, Austin who she lets down her guard with.  Torn between the kindness of both men, she is also plagued with reoccuring flashbacks of her tormenters when she was kidnapped.  When an intern at the hospital, Dr. Samson, arrives, he may have some answers she is seeking.  But when her captors find where she is hiding, not only will she be in danger, but so will her newfound friends.  Will she run or will she stay and fight?

Human Blend is a compelling and twisted paranormal tale that will leave the reader with more questions than answers.  Julie is a fierce and likable heroine that will keep you entranced, page after page.  With a love triangle and trying to piece in her past and her abilities, the suspense builds leaving you breathless, waiting to see what happens next.  I can't wait to begin the next in this riveting series, Earth Blend!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
