This week's question asks:
Last Saturday (May 2nd) is Free Comic Book Day! In celebration of comics and graphic novels, some suggestions:
- Do you read graphic novels/comics? Why do/don’t you enjoy them?
- How would you describe the difference between “graphic novel” and “comic”? Is there a difference at all?
- Say you have a friend who’s never encountered graphic novels. Recommend some titles you consider landmark/”canonical”.
When I was younger, I used to read Wonder Woman comic books because well, she was wonderful ! I wanted an invisible plane too. But as I grew older, I veered away from the comics, no reason really, except , well I got older and they lost interest. But recently, some of my favorite authors have come out with "graphic novels". I thought I'd try it, and really, they aren't that bad. Lots of pictures in them, and the pictures really tell the story more than the written word. I guess they really are alot of like, except comics are more of a magazine, and Graphic novels are printed bound matter. The graphics are better too IMO.
Graphic novels are kind of hard for me, just because I'm not used to having to look at the pictures to know the whole story. I'd like to read more of them, eventually.
ReplyDeleteI've only read one graphic novel, The Shiniest Jewel, a story of international adoption. I really enjoyed it - the author poured all her emotions onto the page!
ReplyDeleteI have several on my "wish list" including Persepolis. They're just not part of my regular routine of reading.
