BBAW Give-Away - YA ARC Pack
In honor of BBAW - I'm giving away two YA ARCS!
Fire by Kristin Cashore and Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson.
Fire by Kristin Cashore - Fire, Graceling's prequel-ish companion book, takes place across the mountains to the east of the seven kingdoms, in a rocky, war-torn land called the Dells.
Beautiful creatures called monsters live in the Dells. Monsters have the shape of normal animals: mountain lions, dragonflies, horses, fish. But the hair or scales or feathers of monsters are gorgeously colored-- fuchsia, turquoise, sparkly bronze, iridescent green-- and their minds have the power to control the minds of humans.
Seventeen-year-old Fire is the last remaining human-shaped monster in the Dells. Gorgeously monstrous in body and mind but with a human appreciation of right and wrong, she is hated and mistrusted by just about everyone, and this book is her story.
Wondering what makes it a companion book/prequel? Fire takes place 30-some years before Graceling and has one cross-over character with Graceling, a small boy with strange two-colored eyes who comes from no-one-knows-where, and who has a peculiar ability that Graceling readers will find familiar and disturbing...
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson - Lia and Cassie had been best friends since elementary school, and each developed her own style of eating disorder that leads to disaster. Now 18, they are no longer friends. Despite their estrangement, Cassie calls Lia 33 times on the night of her death, and Lia never answers. As events play out, Lia's guilt, her need to be thin, and her fight for acceptance unravel in an almost poetic stream of consciousness in this startlingly crisp and pitch-perfect first-person narrative. The text is rich with words still legible but crossed out, the judicious use of italics, and tiny font-size refrains reflecting her distorted internal logic. All of the usual answers of specialized treatment centers, therapy, and monitoring of weight and food fail to prevail while Lia's cleverness holds sway. What happens to her in the end is much less the point than traveling with her on her agonizing journey of inexplicable pain and her attempt to make some sense of her life.
There will be 2 winners - so please make sure in your comments you let me know which title you'd prefer or either.
USA Only!
Make sure you leave an email or I can't contact you if you win.
Winners will be announced on September 19th.

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.

Have you ever dreamed of actually
ReplyDeletebecoming a character in one of your favorite book series?
HERE'S YOUR CHANCE!!
D.D. Barant is currently writing the second book in the 'Bloodhound Files' series.
The next volume, scheduled for publication in 2010 will be called
DEATH BLOWS
and YOUR NAME could be a character in the book
DD Barant writes:
"I’d like to offer the chance of literary immortality in the second book of the Bloodhound Files series—I will use the name of the highest bidder as a character in the second book, DEATH BLOWS. Be forewarned, though; there’s a good chance you’ll appear as a vampire, werewolf or golem. As long as you have no problem with that—place your bids!"
Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance to have your name as a character in this wonderful new series!!!
Here's what critics had to say about DYING BITES:
"Snappy writing, a page-turning story and fresh world-building make Dying Bites a satisfying meal of a book."—Kelley Armstrong, New York Times bestseller of Living with the Dead
"Dying Bites is wacky, unpredictable, fresh and amazing. I would kill to write as well as DD Barant. Seriously."--Nancy Holder, author of Pretty Little Devils
"Barant’s well-developed world offers intriguing enhancements to mythology and history. Jace is remarkable, strong-willed and smart, and she sets an unstoppable pace. Look for the Bloodhound Files to go far." -Publisher's Weekly
Q: Can I name my character anything I want?
A: Not quite. The name should be the name of a real person. No obscene nicknames or trademarked names will be accepted
Q: What exactly will I be getting if I win?
A: D.D. Barant has agreed to name a character after you or someone you choose. At the end of the auction, you'll send us the name that you want the character to be and D.D. Barant will send you a signed certificate with your chosen name. Upon publication of DYING BITES, D.D. Barant will inscribe an author's copy of the book for you and send it to you.
Q: Can I choose what kind of being (vampire, werewolf or golem) I'd like my character to be?
A: No. The character has to serve the needs of the story.
Q: Will my character be featured in more than one book in the series?
A: Probably not. Again, the needs of the story will determine who and what the character is. You get to choose the name.
ALL proceeds of this auction will go to the Dream For Jeanne Fund
