Guest Author Caridad Pineiro and a give away!

Many thanks for having me here today at the Minding Spot!  I always love meeting new people.  It’s one of the great things about being published.

There has been a lot of buzz about SINS OF THE FLESH and what inspired me to write about something so different, namely a genetically engineered human being.

I guess it all goes back to elementary school and two momentous occasions.  The first:  My English teacher assigning our class a project – to write a book for a class lending library.  The second:  Getting a chemistry kit of Christmas!

Yes, imagine awakening on Christmas morning and heading downstairs to see what Santa had left.  Ripping open the paper to reveal . . .  A chemistry kit.

Now you might be saying, “Oh no!”, but for me it was a cool Santa gift.  I even remember what it looked like – a rectangular yellow metal box filled with all kinds of cool experiments suitable for a young child.  By later that afternoon, we were busy making “snow” in a test tube and causing all other kinds of weird things to happen.

You see, I was a science geek back then.  I guess I still am because over the years I never lost my interest in seeing what was happening in the world of science and how it was affecting our lives.  In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on genetically modified organisms and how they are entering our food chain.  How that will affect us in the future and whether we should even be eating such products.

That got me to thinking about the ultimate genetically modified organism, or GMO as you might see in the news.  What about a genetically modified human?  One who was given different powers by the addition of non-human genes?

The concept for SINS OF THE FLESH was born from that love of science and that question about creating a modified human being.

And because I love romance and suspense, I knew that I had to have truly evil villains.  In the paranormal genre, such villains are usually demons or monsters of some kind, but in SINS there are villains that are even scarier.  Why scarier?  Because they’re human and can therefore actually do evil in real life.  In fact, humans are much scarier and more inhumane than monsters.  Especially mad scientists.

Caterina is both saved and doomed by their actions.  Saved because they do cure her of the brain tumor that was going to kill her.  Doomed because they hire a mercenary to bring her in and because the genes multiplying in her body are making her something other than human.

But the mercenary, Mick Carrera, is not really as he seems.  Luckily for Caterina, Mick not only has scruples, but he isn’t falling for the scientists’ story about the murder that Caterina has supposedly committed.  And did I mention that Mick is finding it hard not to be attracted to Caterina, a woman who is not only beautiful, but strong, intelligent and caring.

Even with my love of science, SINS OF THE FLESH had to represent my other loves of romance and action.  I find nothing more intriguing than a story where the hero and heroine seem to have to overcome nearly impossible odds to be together.  I hope as you read SINS, you will find yourself for Mick and Caterina to beat the bad guys and find a way to be together.

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
