Saturday Spotlight - Favorite Male Mystery Author

Welcome to the Saturday Spotlight, sponsored by Lori's Reading Corner. Each week we will have a chance to showcase something new.  It will be the place to gather, talk and shine the “spotlight” on all things book related.  Not to mention a place to discover new to us authors, characters, series and places.

This week's spotlight is your favorite male mystery author!

LINWOOD BARCLAY

After spending his formative years helping run a cottage resort and trailer park after his father died when he was 16, Linwood Barclay got his first newspaper job at the Peterborough Examiner, a small Ontario daily. In 1981, he joined the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest circulation newspaper. He held such positions as assistant city editor, chief copy editor, news editor, and Life section editor, before becoming the paper’s humour columnist in 1993. He was one of the paper’s most popular columnists before retiring from the position in 2008 to work exclusively on books.

In 2004, he launched his mystery series about an anxiety-ridden, know-it-all, pain-in-the-butt father by the name of Zack Walker.Bad Move, the first book, was followed by three more Zack Walker thrillers: Bad GuysLone Wolf, and Stone Rain.

His first standalone thriller, No Time for Goodbye, was published in 2007 to critical acclaim and great international success. No Time for Goodbye has been sold around the world and is being translated into nearly three dozen languages. And Eric McCormack, who was Will in the television hit comedy Will & Grace, has optioned the book for film. No Time for Goodbye has been followed by Too Close to Home, a major bestseller in the UK, Fear the Worst, and in 2010, Never Look Away. Linwood is putting the finishing touches to Only Death is Real, the novel that will come out in 2011.

It was at Trent that he met the woman who would become his wife. He and Neetha, who teaches kindergarten, have been married for more than 30 years. They have two children, Spencer and Paige.

Never Look Away is his newest release.  It's a stellar thriller with twists and turns that will have you up late reading.

From AmazonBestseller Barclay's outstanding thriller, his fourth stand-alone after Fear the Worst, opens with what should be a happy family outing—a trip to an amusement park. Shortly after newspaper reporter David Harwood; his wife, Jan; and their four-year-old son, Ethan, arrive at Five Mountains in upper New York State, Ethan disappears. A frantic Jan goes to find security, while David soon locates Ethan nearby asleep in his stroller. But now Jan is missing. What's more, the park has no record of selling her a ticket, and she doesn't show up on any security video. Nor is she at home in Promise Falls, N.Y. While the police suspect David killed Jan and concocted the park abduction story, he uses his reporting skills to dig into his wife's past and learns he never really knew her. The tension mounts as Barclay skillfully shows how even the most innocent action can seem suspicious. The surprising twists and appealing characters rank this among the author's best.

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
