Ah-Choo! The Uncommon Life of your Common Cold by Jennifer Ackerman

After the H1N1 panic not so long ago, when I was given the opportunity to read Ah-Choo! I was excited.  After all, we use hand sanitizer, wash thoroughly and even clean the phones and door knobs.  Although my family was fortunate not to get the dreaded swine flu, we still got colds.

Ah-Choo! explains what the common cold is, where it comes from and how it affects us.  It explains what remedies we can use to get rid of it, and delves into all the myths of a cold.

Smoking increases your chance of getting a cold (yup, and lung cancer). People who sleep less than seven hours a night are more prone to getting a cold than those that sleep longer.  People who exercise regularly get colds less often than those that don't.  Ok, I can understand that.  People who drink a glass or two of wine a day were less apt to get a cold.  This one I do not understand.  Also, it states that there is little evidence to support the theory that vitamins, herbs and other supplements help prevent you from acquiring a cold, although they are good for you.

There is also a chapter on comforts while you have a cold, like the good ole saltwater gargle, steaming ( my mom always used a vaporizer), Vicks VaporRub, Vitamin C, Zicam, and more.  I found this book to be educational, helpful, and at times funny.  If you've ever wondered about the life of a cold, pick this one up.

I'm also having a giveaway for a few copies on the giveaway page that ends tomorrow.  Get your entry in today!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
