How Music Works by John Powell - Review & Giveaway!

The Science and Psychology of Beautiful Sounds, from Beethoven to the Beatles and Beyond

Watch American Idol? Those judges tell the contestants alot that their pitch is off.  Ever wonder what that meant? Well, you can find out what pitch is in this wonderful book! John Powell takes us to the basics, showing us the science of how music works.  He includes different instruments and explains the sounds they make, as well as discussing harmony, scales, and much more.

Everyone has certain songs that make them feel different things.  It brings out emotions in us, and Powell talks about how the different aspects that make up music affect us in different ways.  He also talks about  loudness and noise.

This book is very educating, but also written in a way to speak directly to the reader.  I didn't feel like I was at a lecture hall.  At times humorous, Powell has written a very sleek book about how music works.  Music lovers will devour this one, but so will those that want to know how things work!  It even comes with a sample cd of examples and exercises from the book.

I'm delighted that the great people of Hatchette Books are allowing me to giveaway three (3) copies here!
