2010 Book Reviews Recap

I love to read, it is one of my great passions. Book reviewing has really opened some doors to authors I probably wouldn't have read.  I'm ever so greatful because it really opens your mind to all sorts of possibilities.  I read almost 300 books this year, I know, it's alot.  But I love to read!! I always have a book with me, and I read several at once.  I didn't do this last year, but this year I want to list my top reads for 2010 and maybe those that are looking for a fantastic book might want to check it out and love it too :)

MYSTERY/THRILLER
I found Brian Freeman this year.  I read the whole series! I passed them to my sister, who loved them too. Now we are both currently waiting on his next book.  Jonathon Stride Series: Immoral, Stripped, Stalked,  In the Dark and The Burying Place.

Never Look Away by Linwood Barclay.  I love all of Mr. Barclay's books.  There is always a twist that I never see coming at the end.  Heart-pounding thrillers!

Still Missing by Chevy Stevens.  This book will leave you shocked.  It's compelling, shocking, and heart-wrenching.  This is Ms. Steven's debut novel and I can't wait until she has another book.  Awesome writing!

YOUNG ADULT
Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead tops my list.  I just read it and I loved it, although I am sad to see this series end.  She has such a talent for character and plot development!

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins.  Another book that ended a trilogy that is going to be made into a movie.  The book is Always Better IMO.  A very dark and though-provoking end to a wonderful trilogy!

The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson.  I know it didn't release in 2010, but that is when I found the series.  I almost read this series back to back, I love the characters!! Can't wait for the next in the series!

The Thin Executioner by Darren Shan.  LOVED this book.  It is so unique yet the characters will grab you and not let go.

GENERAL FICTION

Roseflower Creek by Jacquelyn Miles.  Any book that starts with "The morning I died it rained. Poured down so hard it washed the blood off my face." has my attention.  And coming from a child? Read the book!

Falling Home by Karen White.  I read this book not long after my dad passed away this year.  I literally cried for days.  That said, it is a don't miss book.  So much emotion and a message packed into the compelling characters.  I'm a new Karen White fan!

Whiter Than Snow by Sandra Dallas.  Another author I found this year.  This book is another compelling page-turner of children caught in a snow avalanche.  Riveting and heart-breaking, but with hope.

Tomato Girl by Jane Pupek.  Another new to me author, a book I wouldn't normally pick up but did at the recommendation of a friend.  Shocking, heart-breaking, and yet a message all to real.

URBAN FANTASY

I vowed I was going to "catch up" on five series this year laying about on Mt. TBR.  I finished One /sigh

I finished the Laurell K Hamilton (Anita Blake) series.  I know alot of folks have strong opinions about them, but I enjoyed them.  I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin Series; Spider's Bite, A Web of Lies, and Venom.  LOVE IT! Not often we get to see a female assassin who runs a BBQ Place.  Kicking butt and taking names later.

I read several other urban fantasy series this year, but these are my top two.  I'm really looking forward though to the final book in Karen Marie Moning's Fae series coming out soon.

I'm sure I missed a few that I absolutely loved, but these came to mind.  I'm definitely going to try and finish up those other 4 series in 2011, namely the Jim Butcher (Harry Dresden) series.

Any particular books that top your list this year? I'm always looking for recommendations!!

  1. I just got my Kindle for Christmas and I'm loaded with books right now! I just downloaded Mockingjay and probably will download Last Sacrifice soon. I read way too much teen fiction, but I really get sucked into them! Glad to see someone else reads them like I do!

  2. I love to read but have actually never read any of the ones you listed. I'm adding a few to my checkout list for the library. :) I love mysteries and thrillers. I do agree too that the book is always better than the movie.

  4. That's a great book list. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or energy to read as much as I use to. I'm currently addicted to the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlene Harris. the next book comes out in May. Its a great fantasy/mystery series.

Stopping by from TFCT, Hope you'll check out my blog and follow back.

  5. Wow! Almost 300 books! That's amazing! How did you manage to read so many? It takes me quite a while to read books...

My favorites of the books I read this year were Flight to Heaven by Dale Black (which is a true story of a many who died, went to heaven, and came back) and Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic. Both books were amazing!! I don't really read fiction because I get lost in the stories and forget what I have to do! LOL

Thanks for sharing... and I'm here from the blog hop! Have a great day! :)

  6. I love to read, but don't read nearly as much as I used to! I did recently read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I loved it! I watched the movie afterward. The book is ALWAYS better!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
