No Hope for Gomez by Graham Parke Review & Giveaway

After Gomez's parents died, he inherited their antique shop.  Gomez doesn't really know anything about antiques, so he really needs cash.  What easier way to make some than to participate in a drug trial?

When Gomez inherited the antique shop, Hicks came with it.  Hicks is very high strung.  He is most calm when he is sweeping. He can't stand to open early and he has to leave exactly at five o'clock.  Gomez gets annoyed with Hicks but spends his own time blogging on his laptop everyday, so it is really of no consequence.

With the drug trials, Gomez is to blog entry everyday what he thinks, feels, does and etc.  But when someone who was in the trials like Gomez ends up dead, Gomez gets a bit paranoid.  He begins to investigate and wants to make sure it was natural causes or would he be the next victim?

Gomez also has a crush on Dr. Hargrove.  She gives him his pills, asks him questions on each of his visits to the clinic.  She thinks she has a stalker and Gomez, wanting to be closer to her, offers to stalk her stalker.  But it isn't working out like he hoped; every night nothing happens.

Gomez's investigations into the trial victim's death leads him to a Detective in the police department and they work together on a few things, but then the Detective winds up missing.  Gomez is really freaked about it, and even his annoying neighbor Warren can't calm Gomez down.

Determined to sell an antique, get the girl, find the stalker, sell Hicks on eBay, and make sure he isn't the next victim -- Gomez will leave you in stitches.  In his mind, what is reality and what is a figment of his drugged brain will have you laughing and also empathatic toward Gomez and his situation.  A highly intelligent man who doesn't realize it! I quite enjoyed reading and unravelling the plot as Gomez did.  The whole book is written in blog entry which is a first for me, but really made it a quick and entertaining read!

  12. Gomez sounds like a character that anyone would feel sorry for. Yet after reading one problem after another that he faces, the story sounds funny too. There's comedy in tragedy. Writing the book in blog style is so unusual. I would love to read this book. I'm already cheering for poor Gomez. :-)
