Unrevealed and Promissory Payback by Laurel Dewey - TOUR

UNREVEALED is an anthology containing four Jane Perry stories.

Anonymous is the story of a woman that Jane meets in her AA meetings who asks Jane for help. Her sister died in 9/11 and she can't help but feel guilty. Jane believes she needs someone to talk to more than an investigator, but the secrets revealed are unexpected.

You Can't Judge a Book by its Cover - Jane is forced by her boss to speak at a local middle school for career day. One of the children brought in has special needs and seems to have the capability of hearing Jane's thoughts. She takes him home afterward and finds something sinister in his home life.

You're Only as Sick as Your Secrets - Jane is called to a death in a well-to-do home late one night. The victim supposedly fell down the stairs but the blood-laced panties throw off the investigation. The husband is always the first suspect, but what secrets are revealed in her investigation is not what she was expecting.

Things Aren't Always What They Seem finds Jane visiting a bar late one evening. Although she craves a drink, she abstains as she talks to a fellow AA member and her violent domestic life. But after the night is over, Jane will wish she had taken that drink.

All four stories are short, but they show different aspects of Jane's police detective career and her own investigative business. She's very bold, intuitive and clever. Her world is full of bad guys and she does the best she can to make wrongs right.

In PROMISSORY PAYBACK, Jane Perry is knee-deep in a most unusual homicide. A wealthy woman, Carolyn Handel, has been found dead in her bed, hog-tied and duct-taped. What are most unusual though are the shredded promissory notes in her mouth.

Jane talks to Carolyn's oldest friend Laura and finds out that Carolyn had investors for a potential condominium and those investors were upset they hadn't gotten their money back yet. Jane begins to investigate those investors, leading her from a travel agency to an airport and to Carolyn's do-gooder nephew. As the clues begin to click into place, the puzzle becomes ironic.

Both of Laurel Dewey's books are page turners featuring gritty and hard-boiled detective Jane Perry. Her off-hand tenderness, her stubbornness to right wrongs and her keen sense of intuition are only a glimpse at this likable heroine. The writing is superb and the spackling of clues lead the reader on a merry chase to each satisfactory conclusion. I can't wait to read more of Jane Perry's investigations!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
