Georgette Heyer 110th Birthday Bash & Giveaway!

Courtesy of Amazon - Georgette Heyer remains an enduring international bestseller, read and loved by four generations of readers and extolled by today's bestselling authors. Despite her enormous popularity she never gave an interview or appeared in public. Georgette Heyer wrote her first novel, The Black Moth, when she was seventeen in order to amuse her convalescent brother. It was published in 1921 to instant success and ninety years later it has never been out of print. A phenomenon even in her own lifetime, to this day she is the undisputed queen of regency romance.

During ten years of research into Georgette Heyer's life and writing, Jennifer Kloester has had unlimited access to Heyer's notebooks and private papers and the Heyer family records, and exclusive access to several untapped archives of Heyer's early letters. Engaging, authoritative and meticulously researched, Georgette Heyer: Biography of a Bestseller offers a comprehensive insight into the life and writing of a remarkable and ferociously private woman.

Georgette has published over 55 books and is well known as the Queen of Regency Romance.  I remember my grandmother reading these books, then when I was old enough, I have to.  Now, in a few more years, I'll turn my daughter toward them.  Simply Amazing to have had such a publishing career! Happy Birthday Georgette!

  1. Georgette Heyer's books were the first romance books that I read. I found them in the library as a teenager and I read every book the library had. I'd really like to read them all again one of these days, I remember how much I loved them, even though it has been quite a few years since I read them.

  3. I discovered Georgette Heyer through these great re-issues that Sourcebooks has been putting out recently. I read my first of her work last year, and I was hooked! Her style really reminds me of Jane Austen-- so classy. I haven't read any of her "modern" books yet, and I'm looking forward to it.

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  6. I love history, and that is just one of the reasons why I love historical romance. I started out as a young romance fan reading Georgette Heyer, Barbara Cartland, and Jane Aiken Hodge. In my early twenties, I discovered Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, and my whole perception of historical romance was refined and enhanced. I like to alternate between new releases and older reads. While the new and the old can be vastly different in content, one thing is certain–what’s good is good, and even what’s not good can still have some shining moments. We are so lucky to live in this world today with an amazing collective treasure trove of great reads available from so many different sources!

  17. I like reading Georgette Heyer because the dialouge is often quite fun to read, and the books tend to be quite light hearted. I also like seeing how she will approach the Regency genre each time.

  21. I am intrigued by her because I was chatting with a fellow book blogger, Christina from A Reader of Fictions, and she commented that she thought Heyer's romance was classy for their covers (looking like an Austen classic). And I ended up curious about Heyer's work.

  24. I discovered Georgette Heyer when I was 12, I was addicted to LOUISA mAY aLCOTT'S books and a shelf filled with regency-striped books caught my eye. I checked out The Grand Sophy and was so entranced with the wit and humor of the heroine and the delightfully frustrated hero that I subsequently checked out her other books and would read late into the night! To my father's plea to" turn off the light and go to sleep!", I would mumble "sure,Dad" and waited til he left and then read under the covers! Like eating chocolate, Heyer is irrestible! auroraione@yahoo.com

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
