Shadow Bound (Unbound #2) by Rachel Vincent

Kori Daniels is a shadow-walker, able to travel instantly from one shadow to another. After weeks of confinement for betraying her boss, she's ready to break free of the Tower syndicate for good. But Jake Tower has one final job for Kori, one chance to secure freedom for herself and her sister, Kenley, even if it means taking it from someone else....

The job? Recruit Ian Holt-or kill him.

Ian's ability to manipulate the dark has drawn interest from every syndicate in the world, most notably an invitation from Jake Tower. Though he has no interest in organized crime, Ian accepts the invite, because he's on a mission of his own. Ian has come to kill Tower's top Binder: Kori's little sister.

Amid the tangle of lies, an unexpected thread of truth connecting Ian and Kori comes to light. But with opposing goals, they'll have to choose between love and liberty..

Shadow Bound is book 2 in the Unbound series by Rachel Vincent. After reading Blood Bound ( book 1 ) I couldn't wait to read this! Shadow Bound picks up a couple of months after Blood Bound's end. But this time or main characters are different, although we get a little more Olivia and Cam here too. We met Kori in book 1 but I loved getting to know her better in this story. Kori is strong yet vulnerable, sassy, and sharp tongued. Just my type of girl! Horrible things have happened to Kori as a result of the events from Blood Bound. Now she has a new mission and is determined to prove herself for her sister's sake. In steps the gorgeous Ian Holt and with him a world full of trouble.

Rachel has built an amazing and unique world that had me hanging on every word. The suspense was perfectly enticing drawing me in and pulling me right into the pages. Shadow Bound is a bit dark, but most great stories are! Some of the things Kori endured were truly terrible but thankfully it doesn't get too descriptive yet we know enough to make me ache for her and want her to succeed that much more. It seemed with every chapter Ian and Kori dug themselves in deeper and deeper, until I had no clue how they were going to get themselves out alive! Yet somehow through all the emotional wounds and all the mess, Ian and Kori form a bond. But in a world of oaths and bindings can their bond survive?

Shadow Bound could be read as a stand alone but I believe it would be better enjoyed being read after Blood Bound. I  highly recommend this book to fans of dark paranormal romance ( this is no light fluffy romance ). I look forward to checking out some of Rachel's other books.

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
