Altered - Revelations of the Evolved (The Evolved Trilogy #1) by Shawnda Currie

Abandoned by her family, Lacey is sent to a juvenile detention center known as Clear Waters. Her teen years don't look promising until she is befriended by a mysterious stranger named Taylor, a gorgeous guy whose captivating eyes seem to stare into her soul. Convinced she is in danger at Clear Waters, Lacey joins Taylor in a daring escape. As she meets Taylor's group of friends, she discovers that they're more than they seem - they've been sent from the future to head off an evil corporate plot that will lead to a world war unless averted. With Lacey as their only hope to prevent a grim future, Taylor shows Lacey how to tap into her psychic abilities known in his time as evolved humans. Traveling with her new friends, she discovers the magic of love while she grows into the powerful warrior chosen to make the difference to the world!

I love time travel books if they are written well.  It's irritating when there are plot holes that make the time difference unbelievable.  However, that is NOT the case with Altered.  In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed the world that Currie built.

Lacey is just your average teenager, she makes mistakes.  She's human.  When she finally makes one mistake too many, she's sent to a juvenile facility in the mountains, Clear Waters. It's not all as it appeared in the brochure, but Lacey takes the hand that is dealt to her and tries to fit in.  She makes some new friends and a cute boy named Taylor.

Taylor and she become quick friends and a romance begins to bud, but it takes a backseat to their escape plans.  He convinces her that she has other abilities and explains that he is from the future.  He tries to teach her own to use her abilities, as those in his time, those with the abilities are called Altered.    He and his friends have traveled through time on a mission to change the past so that a world war doesn't break out in the future.  Lacey's life has taken a complete change - she just needs to realize who she is and how she fits into everything.

Altered is a fast-paced adventure with complex characters with a solid plot.  I was intrigued on how Currie spun her web and captured me in her tale without me even knowing it.  A great young adult adventure that I'd recommend to anyone.  I can't wait to read volume two and continue the adventure with Lacey and friends!

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
