No Escape by Mary Burton Review & Giveaway

He Was Taught How To Kill

Even behind bars, serial killer Harvey Day Smith exudes menace. Psychologist Jolene Granger has agreed to hear his dying confession, vowing not to let the monster inside her head. And Harvey has secrets to share—about bodies that were never found, and about the apprentice who is continuing his grisly work…

And Now He’ll Teach Them

He buries his victims alive the way his mentor Harvey did, relishing their final screams as the earth rains down. And as one last gift to the only father he knew, he’ll make the most perfect kill of all.

How To Die

Everything about this investigation is unnerving Jo, from Harvey’s fascination with her to the fact that she’s working alongside Texas Ranger Brody Winchester, her ex-husband. Harvey’s protégé is growing bolder and more vicious every day. And soon the trail of shallow graves will lead them to the last place Jo expected, and to the most terrifying truth of all…

I love Mary Burton's books! No Escape is no exception.  From the opening pages of introducing the reader to the past of Harvey Day Smith and his apprentice, Burton has my complete attention. Fast forward several years and Smith is in jail and wants to speak to none other than Jolene, a psychologist who has a penchant for getting inside the head of killers.

Smith is about to die from cancer but there are still three bodies he hasn't given them the burial information on.  They'd like to give the families closure before Smith dies, and he's willing to do that.  But he also has another agenda, watching his young apprentice become a man, and he's not willing to give Jolene or Texas Ranger Brody Winchester to many clues to help them out, just a few to give them a head-start .  Because more woman are disappearing and dying in the same fashion as Smith's victims and what they don't know is that he is determined to make Jolene his next victim.

The romance takes a backseat in No Escape, which is just the way I like romantic suspense.  Jolene and Brody have a past that they try to keep from impeding their current work investigation, but dirty secrets always come to light eventually.  The killer is never a secret except to Brody and Jolene, but it was fun watching how they followed the breadcrumbs that Smith threw them and through the mistakes that the apprentice made.  Definitely another fabulous read from Burton! Keep 'em coming!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
