Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill

Vampire houses are allowed twelve initiates each year. Merit just became number twelve for Cadogen House, without her consent.

Merit is a graduate student at the University of Chicago. She goes by her last name, Merit, because she does not like her given name. Her family is wealthy and well-known in the area. Not one to put much value into material items, Merit pays her own way in the world and is pretty happy with her life. That is, until one night, she is attacked on campus grounds. She struggles with her attackers but doesn't remember much about that night. Just green eyes and agonizing pain at her neck.

When Merit wakes up, she finds out she has become vampire. Being a vampire does not shock her. Vampires had made their existence known to the public months ago. What makes her angry is the fact that she wasn't given a choice in the matter. They turned her without her consent. Merit is assigned to the Cadogen House, one of the twelve vampire houses in America. The master of Cadogen House is Ethan. Merit rebels against his authority even if she is attracted to him and his mesmerizing green eyes.

Young women are being murdered on campus grounds. They are being drained of blood and left for dead. The police and other vampire houses believe the murderer is from Cadogen House, the only vampire house that still drinks from humans. But before Merit can help with the investigation and clear Cadogen House of the charges, she needs to accept her new identity as a vampire, and deal with their feelings about Ethan.

This may be Chloe Neill's debut novel, but it doesn't read like one. Her world building is flawless. Her characters are sassy, sexy and mesmerizing. Merit is a heroine who strolls onto the paranormal scene like she owns it. SOME GIRLS BITE is fang-tabulous! You won't want to miss this one.

  5. I sure hope my library gets this one in soon! I like the vampire school stories that keep cropping up in YA okay but I believe this one would be really interesting!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
