The River King's Road by Liane Merciel
The Langmyrn border village of Willowfield is desecrated by great evil, but the dead lord's babe survives. Bry's Tarnell is a mercenary who rescues the baby and enlists a young peasant mother, Odesse, to feed and take care of the child as they travel.
Sir Kellend is a Knight of the Sun whose job is to reveal the perpetrators of the blood slaughter and try to avert war. Bitharn is Sir Kelland's companion, who is fiercely in love with him, but he doesn't know it. There is a witch who practices evil magic deep in the forest who could doom them all, even the baby they are trying to save.
The River King's Road is a fantasy debut of epic proportions. Just when you think the plot can't twist any further, Ms. Merciel spirals in a different direction that will leave you breathless. A page-turning fantasy, it didn't grab me for about a hundred pages. The world-building and plot needed to be laid, and I understand that, but the going was slow. But once the momentum picked up, it didn't let go. Fantasy lovers will enjoy this one!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.

Ack! I'm behind and I haven't even finished this one yet. I'm loving it so far, though, and I'm only 58 pages in. I've found that if the writing's good, I don't mind a slow start. But I didn't feel like it started slow, either. :)
ReplyDeleteWendy -- I got right into this one, I enjoyed it, but I hate it when ou get to the end only to find out it is continued.
