Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland

Elizabeth Phoenix used to work for the Miwaukee Police Department until her partner was killed, then she quit. She now tends bar for her former partner's widow. Liz is a psychic, and her talent has saved many lives. One day she feels a "pull', and rushes off to her foster mother's home to find Ruthie viciously killed. Trying to understand the horrifying visions she has when she touches Ruthie, Liz passes out.

When she comes to, she is in the hospital. The police question her, and ask her if she knows the whereabouts of Jimmy. She and Jimmy were raised together and he is their number 1 suspect. She hasn't seen Jimmy in a few years since things ended badly between them. Once the police leave, Liz checks herself out, and goes to find Jimmy and some answers.

She finds Jimmy at an old dairy farm. He explains to her that he is a dhamphir, part human and part vampire and that he has been hunting monsters since he was eighteen. When Ruthie died, she passed her powers to Liz. Liz can see who the monster is behind the human face, tell Jimmy, and he will kill it.

They are attacked while at the dairy farm. After leaving clues on the dead that would make the police tie the crime with Ruthies murder, Jimmy and Liz head to the reservation in Mexico. Hopefully there, Liz can learn about her new powers and lead them all in the fight against evil.

The first book in a new series, it is fast-paced and full of action. The heroine is likeable and the sex is sizzling. I look forward to the next in the series!

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
