ARC Pack Give-Away!

The House of Allerbrook by Valerie Anand - Lady-in-waiting Jane Sweetwater's resistance to the legendary attentions of Henry VIII may have saved her pretty neck, but her reward is a forced and unhappy marriage with a much older man and a harsh life on his farm. Her only consolation is that she still lives upon her beloved Exmoor, the bleak yet beautiful land that cradles Allerbrook House, her family home.

Played out in this remote, forbidding place, Jane's long and storied life is fraught with change: her fiercely protective nature leads her to assume responsibility not only for her own husband and child, but also for the rebellious son of her wayward sister. In time, she regains the position of a woman with status and property, but she cannot ignore the rumblings from London, as the articles of faith change with every new coronation.

Jane's small world is penetrated by plotting, treachery and even thwarted love as those she holds dearest are forced to choose between family loyalty and fealty to the crown.

Mortal Friends by Jane Stanton Hitchcock - In bestseller Hitchcock's whirling and suspenseful comedy of manners, gauche, aggressive Cynthia Rinehart, a self-made millionairess, explodes onto the philanthropy scene and the grand dames of old money Washington collectively clutch their husbands. Meanwhile, the Beltway Basher, suspected to be a member of the D.C. elite, continues to bump off young brunettes. Reven Lynch, an unmarried antique-shop owner, is tapped to play society informant, perhaps because her love interest, notorious playboy (and the D.C. version of Sex and the City's Mr. Big) Bob Poll, is also a person of interest in the case. Gossip, manipulation and infidelity all happen behind Washington's velvet curtain, and it's the stuff of high school, but with higher—nay, deadlier—stakes. And among the backbiting, Hitchcock (Social Crimes) manages to stew a convincing homicide plot, peppered with enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing, and guessing again, to the novel's neat finish.

Searching for Blue Mercury by J.M.E. Flowers - Monty Parker, Chief Detective on a serial killing case, sat immobilized at his desk. Lately the demons from his past had increasingly begun to take a greater hold on his life. The hallucinations that had haunted him since childhood were beckoning him. Now as he fought them with every fiber of strength he could rally as he realized the horrible truth. He knew the people that this monster had killed and mutilated. In police work that might have been true for one or two, but six? As he delved deeper into the files, he knew. These people were not some obscure, isolated cases. Their connection to him could mean only one thing. The person who committed these horrendous crimes was close to him, maybe even himself. He had to find out, to sabotage the files until he could sort it all out. Then there was Helen, his wife, Zoe his daughter, and Bev his lover to consider. How would they be affected by the turn of events that would surely follow him to their final conclusion? Follow Parker as he weaves his way through a spine tingling story of intrigue, insanity and coming to grips with his own reality. This story promises to hold your attention until the very last sentence.

I'm cleaning off my shelves and this is just the first batch of ARCs I'm going to be giving away! So, these are all gently read. One winner will get them all!

  6. Wendy,

I didn't notice until just now. It's hard to read your name in the header. Right in that spot it's a little too dark.

The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
